Ajwain, also known as carom seeds or bishop’s weed, is a popular ingredient in Indian and Middle Eastern Cuisine. Ajwain seeds taste similar to thyme and are very similar in appearance to cumin and caraway seeds.
Ajwain’s medicinal healing power has been applied since ancient times to treat various ailments. They are an excellent source of essential oils and possess anti-bacterial, germicide, antifungal and anesthetic properties. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, fibers and anti-oxidants.
1. Relief from cold symptoms.
Ajwain can be used as an effective cold relief remedy. Chew the seeds with lukewarm water to cure a cough or inhale steam from ajwain seeds infused in hot water to unblock a congested nose.
Prepare this simple drink to cure symptoms of indigestion: boil one cup of water and add one tablespoon of Ajwain. Alternatively, chew one tablespoon of raw ajwain seeds with sugar to get rid of indigestion.
Boil a cup of water with a handful of ajwain seeds and consume twice a day to cure diarrhea.
4. Oral problems.
Ajwain is an effective treatment option for tooth pain and to maintain oral hygiene. Use one part of clove oil and one part of ajwain oil and water to treat tooth ache, bad odour and tooth decay.
Massaging ajwain oil onto your joints provides relief from arthritis pain.
